‘Triple Vision’ 02.12.25 feat. Mosam Howieson
Melbourne producer and DJ, Mosam Howieson has carved out a signature sound within deep techno and atmospheric electronics, landing him releases on acclaimed labels including Mysteries of the Deep, Butter Sessions, Silent Season, Semantica and most recently on Haruka’s Protection imprint. His music draws the listener into sonic worlds he creates. His productions balance weight and stillness, rhythm and restraint and his mixes carry that same storytelling sensibility. For this episode, he delivers a journey both meditative and propulsive, exploring texture as rhythm and space as groove.

Q&A with Mosam Howieson
Q1. When you make or record music, do you picture a specific listener; the club dancer, the headphone wanderer, the sunrise-festival drifter, or do tracks tend to discover their context only once they’re out in the world?
MH: I have become better at designating the intent for a track and sticking to it.
Certainly I do think of whether this is more of a "listening" track as opposed to a functional club or festival record.
Q2. Your sound design often feels tactile, like something physically moving in space. When sculpting sound, what do you reach for first: synths, field recordings, modular, found audio, or digital processing? Does your process typically follow a path or diverge from the initial point of inspiration?
MH: I do like to create movement in the sound design as much as possible. When done correctly it can be really immersive.
In terms of what I reach for first, its never the same. Generally once I come across a really strong sound or idea I will try and focus the rest of the record around that, That could be a synth line, or a rhythm or a melody.
As I mentioned earlier I am better at following a path and structure now, in the past it would all be free form but I found it ultimately less productive.
Q3. Having released on diverse labels, from ambient and dub-leaning Silent Season & Mysteries of the Deep to more club-focused Semantica & Butter Sessions, what do you see as the next phase for your music or what sounds are you currently exploring in the studio?
MH: I am hoping to make and release some more functional music this coming year. Though I will always make time for ambient and melodic driven stuff.
I do grow bored easily making the same style of thing.
I have some stuff I am sending around at the moment. which I am really happy with.
Q4. What's something within a community you're a part of that you'd like people to know about?
MH: Our whole local music creating scene is super inspiring.
I think people may have even forgotten that there was a time when we didn't have anything close to what we have now.
We all push to create better music and that is super important.
