Q&A with Terra Verna

Q1. What would you envision as the ideal listening environment for this mix you’ve put together? Are there any tracks or artists which are particular stand-outs for you at the moment?

I see this mix being best heard out in the wild, somewhere open, maybe under the sky, where you can feel the breeze and let the sound breathe around you. The great outdoors really gives space for the layers and textures to settle.

Right now I’m really into Cousin & Priori’s new EP: Fly In Amber. The release feels like it is built around the ethos of space, subtle momentum, and moments that float.

Q2. Tell us about the new collective & event series launching soon you’ve been involved with. What is the vision behind the collective & how do you hope to contribute or impact your local scene?

We’ve got a new venture called Terrainia. It’s a collective I’m running with three of my mates, all driven by the same itch to do something different. I can’t spill everything yet (we haven’t launched fully), but here’s the gist: we’ve booked three international artists already (one of them an Aussie favourite), and the idea is to host a series of warehouse parties across different spaces. Then, next summer, we’re planning an intimate outdoor gathering deep in a native NZ forest.

My hope is that Terrainia becomes a bit of a node. A place where the local scene can expand its edges, where we work with artists from Australia that align with our vision, and where we build something a bit unexpected. I’m keen to contribute by connecting people, curating moments, and making space for new voices and fresh energy.

Q3. What’s something you’ve found inspiring recently & how do you channel your creativity when it hits?

What’s really lighting me up lately is the building sense of community here in Tāmaki Makaurau. The way people are coming together, sharing energy, ideas, and support each other to create something real. It’s not just about the music, it’s about the connections behind it.

When that inspiration hits, I channel it by writing. Jotting down moments, and riffing on ideas

Q4. What’s something within a community you’re a part of that you’d like people to know about?

Terrainia is something we’re quietly building with a lot of care. We’re wanting to connect with Australian promoters and artists who resonate with what we’re doing. The warehouse series is just the beginning, and the bush gathering next summer in native forest land will be something special. Alongside the events, we’re launching a bi-weekly mix-cast series, and we want Australians involved too. It’s about bridging scenes, sharing stories, and amplifying voices across different landscapes.
