Melbourne-based DJ with Polish roots, Marek Wolny aka Panomaro, joins us this month for a Q&A and guest mix on Triple Vision.

A dedicated record collector & true techno head, Panomaro digs deep, both in record crates and on the dance floor, in search of hypnotic, immersive sounds. His selections channel his love for textured, trippy rhythms and a passion for sonic exploration that spans continents and transcends genres.

Q&A with Panomara

Q1. Was there a particular mood or feeling that informed the selections for this mix? Are there any records that are particularly favourites for you?

The plan was to have a continous trip. I like when you can close your eyes and let the music take you places. Wanted a bit of variety and gentle dose of wierdness.

I am particularly attached to the 3rd track: Murcof - Mapa. I found it while on my first festival a while back in Poland when I was 19 years old. The entire album is amazing, in this particular track I love angelic voices in the background - it feels so grand and almost like something you could hear in a cathedral or and fine art gig.

The last record is also a special one as it was the first record I bought: Prince of Denmark - Pulsierendes Leben on his last Giegling appearance. Music is magic, the dreamers and believers make it special.

Q2. Where is your favourite dance floor in the world and what has made that space so special to you?

There are a few and hard to pick one because each one served me a great favour of understanding myself at specific point of my life.

Labyrinth is up there at the top - I love to party around kind and respectful people, who trully appreciate deep immersive sound. Monument is also special for it being a lovely Norwegian take on a similar concept, with extra friendliness added to the mix. Berghain made me first fall in love in techno and understand the power of music, which I was low key fan for years on headphones. Dancing like there is no tomorrow is amazing.

Q3. Do you have any favourite places to dig for new tunes either locally or when travelling?

Locally in Melbourne, Alley Tunes is responsible for most of my record purchases. Favourite physical store would be Disc Union’s Shibuya or any other - there is always so much. Proton Records in Copenhagen has all the goods, Osaka’s Newtone is a great spot with packed crates and Berlin Spacehall. I like to spend hours in all these record stores.

Q4. What's something within a community you're a part of that you'd like people to know about?

This will be general view. After listening to techno for like 15 years I have seen things fall in and out of fashion. There is stuff that holds up - one that speaks genuine creativity and jazz-like approach to music.

I feel like the techno music is more vividly getting split between the instant gratification and the focused sound. I am very hopeful for future as there is a new generation of artists doing great things, taking things in their own hands outside the formulas, especially corporate ones. This is part of the magic of the scene that I love. It reminisces the process of evolution, which is solely connected to all things living.
